There are many types of cannabis and in the THCa world, there are type 1, 2, 3 and 4.

Type 1 is high THCa, the one that will get you most stoned/buzzed in theory. There is type 2 which is a even mix of thca and cbd which is more full body, moderate balanced buzz. Good for pain relief and chill out.

And type 3’s are little to no THCa but high in CBD, and type 4’s are high in CBG.

I tell you all this to say that FlowGardens was consistently mentioned as the best or one of the best sources for type 2 and 3.

Type 1 is my usual and my goto. I like getting high.

But a user on reddit had mentioned how Type II’s are probably more what us Gen X stoners were used to smoking back in the day. I was born in the mid 70’s and started smoking when I graduated college in 98.

The claim was that back in those olden days, the weed was closer to Type 2 THCa flower you can buy today that is a balanced mix of THC and CBD. Well, I wanted to try it just for old times sakes and Flow had been on my radar for a while already.

They are a grower and they had some fresh strains that looked intriguing of their Type 1’s so I decided to put together an order that included a quarter of their Cookies type 2 strain.

Flow Gardens Reputation

Flow grew on me over time.

When I first joined the communities that had sprang up around THCa Flow was getting bashed by some of the users for bad bud shipped out. There were claims of moldy ruined bud that should have been caught by their QA department before leaving to customers.

It was some pretty strong heat and it kept me from giving them an honest try for many, many months after.

But I did decide to give them a try because Flow Gardens made it right, refunding and or replacing the bad batches that were sent out.

And they did so in full to all those who were affected.

The truth is, that all vendors and growers have to contend with issues like mold and bud rot in this industry. We are dealing with a plant after all. And sometimes it happens as mold finds a way.

What matters is how the company handles it and Flow Gardens handled it the way a professional company would do so.

I waited about six months after seeing that situation with Flow Gardens before I decided to give them a try myself. There had been steady, positive and successful reports from users of receiving the high quality flower that was expected from Flow Gardens again and the company is committed to sending out the highest quality flower as possible.

This gave me confidence to finally give them a try.

The actions of the company behind the product is what makes a vendor worthy. How they respond to and handle customer issues will determine if they are successful over the long term.

It looks to me like FlowGardens is doing all the right things. I am confident that if you order from them you will have a positive experience and will very likely highly enjoy your product choices.

The Flow Gardens Website

The flow website has all of the tools you need to refine your product selection down very well as well as an easy to use ecommerce checkout system.

I really like the sorting options they offer.

When shopping for flower, you can sort by a Terpene filter, you can sort by Sativa, Indica, Hybrid, Sativa Dominant Hybrid and Indica Dominant Hybrid.

And then by weights starting at 3.5g up to 28g. Eighth to an Oz for us southern older heads.

I like that it shows you how many products are available on their products page within your filter selection. It makes it much easier to filter down to see products and I love this about the flow website.

They also have really good pictures. You can go to the product page and zoom in nice and close on whatever it is you are buying.

They link the COA as one of the images on the product page where you can see the lab report.

You can create your own account that will store all of your past orders and details, which is nice. You can log in find tracking information, past orders and things of that nature. They send an email once the order has a packing list printed.

For shopping, you can sort by type 1, 2 or 3 and then even farther by additional types like sativa, hybrid or indica.  And even farther by terpenes as well as by quantity.  The sorting features let you really dial down to what you are specifically looking for.

When you click through to a product itself you will see a few pictures of the item and a linked COA showing the testing.  There is a small description and the THCa % listed.  There could be more information on a product by product basis I would like to see, like Terpene %, growing methods, curing methods.

There are user reviews on products that have them, but I’m mostly only seeing 5 stars so take those with grains of salt.

Pricing

You can compare vendor pricing here (updated monthly). Flow is right in the middle of the pack price wise.

Average prices are:

  • $35 / eighth
  • $200 / ounce.
  • $90 / .5oz smalls (when available)

These prices of course change over time, so check out my Vendor Pricing Spreadsheet for the most current pricing tiers from the major vendors.

Rewards Program

Yes there is a rewards / loyalty program at Flow Gardens.

  • You earn 5 points for every $1 spent.
  • You also earn 500 points on your birthday.
  • Each point is worth $.01.
  • You can also refer your friends and receive a $5 off coupon for each of you by sharing your link on facebook / social / email.

Packaging

Packaging was in a sturdy, white cardboard box with tape.  It was plain, basic and discreet.  The packaging and ‘from’ address did not indicate that it was from Flow Gardens, contained hemp or anything of the sort.

Inside the box was a vacuum sealed bag and inside of that was the products I ordered.  I snagged four different eighths to try out some various strains they had for sale. Each of those eighths were inside a mylar bag labeled what was inside.

For the curious, I ordered an eighth of a type 2 called Cookies and the others were Pink Champagne, Blue Dream and Rancid Rainbow.  I’ll be reviewing the strains individually and you can check out strain reviews if you want to see what I thought about the product specifically.

Inside there was also a qr code printout where you can pull up information about the product and a packing slip with a handwritten note thanking me for my first order.

There was a freebie bonus pre-roll of cookies that they threw in as well. Thank you Flow Gardens for that unexpected bonus.  I do not know if that was because it was my first order or if this was some random thing they do on occasion or if it is an every order type of thing.

Delivery and Shipping

USPS is the shipping method The packing label was printed and passed along to the post office within 24 hours of order (the next day).  Delivery from the post office was delayed a couple of days but that was of no fault of Flow.

I ordered on 2/29 (leap year) and it arrived on 3/6, however it was originally scheduled to be here on 3/3.

Review of Products Purchased

I wanted to try out some type 2 strains that Flow is well regarded for. Keep in mind that strains and types are subjective. Fire to some is not to others.  With that aside, here is what I thought about the products I purchased.

  • Flows Cookies
  • Blue Dream
  • Rancid Rainbow
  • Pink Champagne x Zbx

As I publish reviews of the individual products I will link them above. The short answer is that I am going to be sticking to my type 1’s mostly. The type 2 did not get me very high and that’s what I prefer. It was relaxing and chill but I like to get nicely buzzed, which the type 2’s did not do for me.

Pros & Cons

A grower and a vendor.
Type 2 and 3 Specialist
Great filtering options on website to find what you want.
Variety of pre-rolls including CannaCigs
Out of stock on type 2's somewhat often due to demand.
Perhaps do not grow all of their type 1 strains
Type 2 and 3 users not happy that Flow Gardens evolved to include Type 1 and spend resources on that market.
